Jo Ann DeVries Mohr, 1931-2021
Jo Ann DeVries Mohr, 89, died January 25, 2021 at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville, Maryland.
Jo Ann was born on September 13, 1931 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of John and Irma (Hanson) DeVries. Raised in Denver, she was a 1949 graduate of South High, where she met her future husband, Wendell Mohr. She attended the Saint Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in December of 1952. Later that month, she and Wendell were married in Denver and established their new home in Troy, New York, where Wendell was completing his engineering degree. For 18 years, she and Wendell made their home in Rochester, New York, where they raised a family of 2 boys and 3 girls. In 1972, the family relocated to Woodland Hills, California, before finally settling in Gaithersburg, Maryland in 1976.
Jo Ann continued in nursing while she raised her family, working at St. Joseph's Villa in Rochester, a veterans hospital in California, and the Wilson Health Care Center at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg. She was an active volunteer, devoting countless hours as a Girl Scout leader. After her retirement, she was a hospice volunteer. Jo Ann was an avid reader, making quick work of stacks of mystery novels. She enjoyed travel wherever it took her, but held a particular love of the desert southwest.
Jo Ann is survived by four children, Vincent and his wife Judith (Davis) of Spencerport, New York, Cynthia Mohr of Gaithersburg, Pamela Cosimano of Clarksburg, Maryland, and Bradley and his wife Kathleen (Whalen) of Seattle, Washington; eight grandchildren, Jason Mohr, Jamie Mohr, Brandy Mohr, Lucas Gravely, Anthony Cosimano, Clayton Cosimano, Henry Mohr, and Charles Mohr; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Mohr, a daughter, Deborah Bruce, and her parents.
